Looking for cheap compression stockings? Sorry, you may want to go elsewhere because we won't sell them to you. Some rather unscrupulous manufacturers make "compression stocking" (purposely put in quotes) that will not serve the purpose that they're supposed to be intended for. In order for support hosiery to be medically effective, they have to be graduated compression. By this, we mean that the heaviest compression is at the ankle, and the compression decreases as it goes up the leg. This facilitates proper bloodflow and reduces the venous blood pressure, aids in swelling and swelling prevention, helps prevent clots, and relieves tired and aching legs.
Making truly graduated compression garments is not cheap
It takes special knitting machines that were designed for creation of medical compression. Yet some normal stocking makers have decided to jump on the bandwagon and create what they call "compression", in order to sell their stuff at higher prices. These are the same stockings you can find in Kroger, Pathmark, and other supermarkets.
If you really want to save some money on support stockings, here's how:
Stick with the big name manufacturers. They make the best, and it's a night & day difference. Most have their normal high quality, but in a "Value Line". Stick with these, and you'll avoid tossing your money in the trash.
